THE JOURNALIST IS OUR FRIEND

Every 2nd November is celebrated globally as the INTERNATIONAL DAY TO END IMPUNITY FOR CRIMES AGAINST JOURNALISTS. 

Their job is sacred,

Sacred because they pursue the ultimate intention of God on earth; equal rights and justice,

Sacred because they mediate between the people and the government. 

All they fight for is justice, justice for rich and for the poor,

Justice for the known and for the unknown, 

Their job is sacred because their priority is for humanity, that all humans be treated as equals.

They make people rich in information and knowledge,

They risk their lives, sacrifice their health, are imprisoned, and are in most cases never rewarded, 

Yet, they make sure we are heard and our rights protected. 

Between the year 2006 and 2025, over 2000 journalist are reported to have been killed while carrying out their duties worldwide. 

Many were injured and some abused while carrying out their duties.

Their numerous plights are in most cases not officially reported. 

Let us protect them, they have long been protecting us;

Let us fight for their rights, they have long been fighting for our fights;

Should there be a friend to depend upon, it is the journalist, 

They listen to us and tell our stories to the world.
