Deaf Association Commends Bauchi Govt Over Special Education Center Yelwa
From Jalaludeen Usman- The National President of the Association of Deaf in Nigeria, Malam Haruna Tsafe,has commended the Bauchi State Government for its commitment to special needs education. Malam Tsafe, who led the Board of Trustees, North East Zone on a courtesy visit to the state, was accompanied by Dr. Umar Tukur Speaking during the visit to Special Education Center, Yelwa, Bauchi,the National President said what he saw at the school was exceptional. "What we have seen here at the Special Education Center, Yelwa is the best we have seen so far among schools for students with special needs," he said. He added that from the testimonies of the students, the Bauchi State Government is taking good care of them. "We thank the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, for providing a conducive learning environment for all," Malam Tsafe stated. The visit was also used to celebrate students of the school who emerged winners at the National ICT Competition. In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, who represented the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said students with special needs have a special place in the heart of the administration. He assured that the government will continue to ensure that special schools lack nothing in terms of teaching and learning materials and qualified teachers. "To ensure there is no discrimination, we have paid all their examination fees including NECO and JAMB for our students with special needs in all our schools," the Permanent Secretary said. Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed thanked the delegation for the visit and for celebrating the achievements of the students.
