Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has distributed 156 official vehicles to fourteen newly appointed emirs and 114 newly appointed district heads in the State,.

Last October 2025, Governor Bala signed a bill creating 13 new emirates, one chiefdom, and 114 district heads in the state, a move that significantly expanded the state’s traditional institution structure, aimed at bringing governance closer to the people.

Presenting the vehicles at Rilwanu Adamu Square in Bauchi, Governor Bala said the gesture is to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance the effectiveness of traditional institutions as part of the administration’s commitment to empowering traditional rulers with the necessary tools to improve service delivery, deepen community engagement, and ensure closer coordination between government and the people at the grassroots.

Governor Bala said the critical role of traditional rulers in maintaining peace, promoting unity, and supporting development initiatives across their domains.

He noted that providing them with adequate mobility will significantly enhance their capacity to respond to community needs and carry out their responsibilities efficiently.

Under the initiative, the fourteen emirs were each provided with 14 GMC SUVs, 14 Toyota buses, and 14 Mitsubishi pick-up trucks to support their official engagements and outreach activities.

In addition, the one hundred and fourteen district heads received Toyota Camry vehicles to aid their administrative functions within their respective communities.

The Governor advised the beneficiaries to utilize the vehicles responsibly and remain committed to upholding integrity, fostering harmony, and working in synergy with government to achieve sustainable development across Bauchi State.

He said “The traditional rulers remain the custodians of our values, the link between government and the grassroots, and the voices of the people. Their presence inspires order, while their wisdom sustains peace,". “These vehicles are essential instruments to enable our traditional rulers to effectively engage their communities, mediate disputes, monitor development, and collaborate with security agencies,” he said.

Governor Bala announced that construction of new palaces for the newly established emirates and chiefdoms had begun, with a promise to complete the projects within six months before the end of his tenure.

He said that the government was reviewing the remuneration and welfare packages of traditional rulers, saying previous provisions no longer reflected the weight of their responsibilities.

Governor Bala said the government had ensured the implementation of statutory allocations of between four and six per cent from local governments to emirates, but warned that the funds must be managed with accountability. “These resources are public funds entrusted to the institutions, not for personal use. Financial autonomy must go hand-in-hand with accountability,” he said.

He advised traditional rulers to remain in their domains to provide effective leadership and cautioned them against engaging in partisan politics..

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, said the initiative reflected the state’s commitment to inclusive grassroots governance, noting that the Assembly had earlier passed the enabling legislation for the new structures.

The Emir of Bauchi and Chairman of the State Council of Emirs welcomed the development, describing it as a significant milestone for traditional institutions, and advised the newly appointed emirs and district heads to uphold the values of the institution while working for peace and development.

He expressed gratitude to the Governor for his respect regard and numerous assistance to traditional institutions in the State.
