The Sa'adu Zungur University. , (SAZU)Gadau in Bauchi State has graduated 12,256 students in 8th, 9th and 10th combined convocation ceremony in Bauchi
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fatima Tahir, said this at the
8th, 9th and 10th combined convocation ceremony ,She said out of the number 11,813 are undergraduate both regular and Part time, and 443 Postgraduate students for the three academic sessions.( 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025)
Vice Chancellor said the National Universities Commission NUC has accredited 17 academic Programmes of the University. which ,attest to the quality of their academic programmes and maintaining high academic standards.
She said out of the 40 academic Programmes run by the university 38 of them are with full accreditation and the remaining two are with interim status.
Professor Fatima said in terms of research the has accessed 148 institutions Based Research Finds (IBRS) funds from Tertiary Education Trust Funds (Tetfund) from 2003 to date and has won two Tetfund Nations Research Funds (NRF) grants.
She said the University is in research collaboration with Don State University of Russia, University saint Malaysia, university of new Mexico and Sunway University of Malaysia.
Vice Chancellor said the institution has continued to record significant progress in academic development, including the accreditation of seventeen programmes by the National Universities Commission.
She commended the state government for its sustained support, particularly in infrastructure and funding, which she said has enhanced learning and research.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, described the convocation as a reflection of the government’s commitment to education and praised development partners for their contributions to the growth of the university.
Also speaking, the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the institution and urged graduates to be good ambassadors of the university.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, describing it as the most powerful instrument for societal progress and transformation.
Governor Bala said his administration has consistently treated education as a strategic investment rather than an expenditure, noting that over fifteen percent of the state’s annual budget has been allocated to the sector.
He said that in the 2026 budget alone, more than fifty-eight billion naira was earmarked for higher education, with over forty billion naira dedicated to capital projects, including construction of classrooms, hostels, laboratories, ICT centres and staff quarters across tertiary institutions in the state.
The Governor further disclosed that specific interventions at Sa’adu Zungur University include the construction of additional classrooms, student hostels, staff housing and improved security infrastructure across campuses.
He said that beyond infrastructure, his administration is focused on strengthening academic standards, promoting research, and ensuring institutional autonomy, while warning against social vices such as drug abuse and sexual harassment within the university system.
Governor Bala highlighted ongoing partnerships with development agencies such as TETFund and NNPCL aimed at improving research and digital capacity in the institution.
A total of over eleven thousand undergraduate students and four hundred and forty-three postgraduate students graduated during the combined convocation covering three academic sessions.
The ceremony marked the formal admission of the graduates into the global community of scholars and professionals.
